Join us for the Circular Movie Night 2025, November 10, 2025, in Stadtkino im Künstlerhaus, followed by a networking buffet, for an evening of cinematic inspiration and critical dialogue on the future of resource use in a circular economy.

We will screen the award-winning documentary “Deep Rising”, narrated and executive produced by Jason Momoa. With stunning footage of the deep ocean and rare glimpses into marine ecosystems, the film tells a gripping story of geopolitical, corporate, and scientific entanglements. It explores the controversial plans for deep-sea mining — a practice that threatens one of Earth’s most fragile environments in the quest for metals like cobalt, nickel, and rare earths, all deemed crucial for the green transition.

But do we really need to mine new frontiers, or can circular strategies offer a better path?

Starting at 5pm with a panel discussion with leading experts from global policy, science, economy and civil society to explore key questions such as:

• Is a future without deep-sea mining realistic?
• Which policies are needed to avoid the need for deep-sea extraction?
• Can circular economy strategies reduce our need for critical raw materials?
• What role does consumer behavior play, and how can we shift it?
• Where do Austria and the world currently stand in terms of urban mining, repair infrastructure, and secondary raw materials?
• What next steps are needed to make the circular transition a societal priority?
